Logistics in World History

Logistics has emerged as a military concept as a result of the needs of the troops. It is known that there were military officers assigned to logistics duties within the ancient Greek and Byzantine armies. The same fact is valid for the Roman civilization as well.

The Oxford Dictionary still defines the logistics as a military concept. Logistics, seen as a profession in Turkey since the Ottoman period, holds a center stage today. In the global scale, it developed gradually over the years, and it was accepted as an occupational arm in the 1950s.

Logistics, a process science, is one of the most important occupational units in industrial sectors. In its most general form, logistics is an activity carried out during the processes of transportation, storage, packaging, distribution, etc. until the product reaches the consumer.
